Surrounded by two large natural salt water lakes, fantastic beaches, golf courses and a mix of both old and new culture Torrevieja is one of the fastest growing towns on the Costa Blanca with an ever growing demand for good quality property.
Located right on the Mediterranean coast Torrevieja is roughly 30 miles south of Alicante, with great transport links via the main N332 coastal road which has been upgraded to dual carriageway in many areas and direct access to the motorway network. Torrevieja is also located right between two international airports it being about 30 minutes drive either north to Alicante airport or 30 minutes south to Murcia airport.
Torrevieja was officially founded in 1803 by King Charles IV, it was originally a fishing and salt mining village, and has been at the centre of the Spanish property boom in recent years with the widest range of both new and established villas, apartments and properties of all types.
The latest Spanish census of 2008 showed that Greater Torrevieja had 103,000 residents of which approximately half were Spanish the rest being expats mostly from Britain and other parts of Western Europe.
Just some of the things that attract people to Torrevieja are the lovely beaches, the Marina and huge variety of places to eat and drink. It has a good social scene, plenty of nightlife and some of the best street markets around. There is a craft market on the main seafront every night from 8pm till about midnight with about 100 stalls and the main market, one of the biggest in Spain with a massive 1200 stalls is held every Friday morning from about 8am till 1pm.
