Many people will know San Javier due to it playing host to Murcia's main airport. San Javier lies at the northern end of the Mar Menor, the famous lagoon cut off from the Mediterranean by the La Manga strip. The town itself lies around a mile inline from the coast and in reality it is one of its boroughs, Santiago de la Ribera, that actually lies on the coast of the Mar Menor stretching north for about a mile until it borders the neighbouring town of Pilar de la Horadada and where most people actually look for property for sale.
San Javier is a working town with a permanent Spanish population and even though tourism plays an ever increasing part in the towns revenue it is still an important agricultural producing area. Due to this the town is still full of traditional Spanish shops, bars and restaurants, although there are many places that cater for international visitors and these become more widespread the closer you get to the coast.
The area around San Javier has been inhabited since prehistoric times and certainly there is evidence of Greek trade and possibly occupation, so it's no wonder that the whole area has plenty of archaeology to explore for those looking for culture. For those looking for a property for sale in the the sun, Santiago de la Ribera has some stunning beaches and being on the coast of the Mar Menor the waters are both warmer and calmer than those of the Mediterranean itself and are perfect for all the activities usually associated with the sea such as diving, fishing, jet skiing, etc.
For those with a nautical interest the Mar Menor can be the perfect holiday destination housing four large Marinas as well as a number of smaller ports where a huge range of craft can be found sheltering in the beautifully calm waters. For golf lovers there are a number of top class courses within easy driving distance and for those into nature there are a wealth of nature reserves and parks as well as the salt and mud flats just over a mile away that themselves draw visitors both for their reputed healing properties and the visitation of flocks of flamingos at certain times of the year.
With the increasing amount of both tourists and those who wish to retreat here to live it is only natural that there has been development of new houses, villas and apartments for sale on the outskirts of San Javier and in particular on the east side towards Santiago de la Ribera towards the Mar Menor. We have access to many of the resale property for sale in this area as well most of the available key ready and off plan properties. So why not apply for a FREE PERSONAL PROPERTY PACK containing properties of the price and critera you choose, or alternatively if you have any questions about San Javier in particular or buying in Spain in General please feel free to contact us.
